"To me, being in a accomplished interior is to be in a place of experience, where my senses are awakened and I am pulled away from the monotony of today's world to come out in another place where I can enter a fantasy. My favorite spaces are out of the ordinary. They carry elements of extravagance and have an elegant flamboyance. I am influenced by works of literature, historical sites and museums and the journeys I make. My heart races with excitement in some of the tiny rooms of the Topkapı Palace. I am touched by the Iznik ceramics at the Rüstem Pasha mosque, the dome of the Mevlevihane at Galata, the mosaics in the Byzantine church of Hagia Sophia and the marble work of the fountains in old Istanbul."
Serdar Gülgün's interior design work ranges from restoring the world's beloved heritage buildings to decorating homes of Istanbul.
